Private Sydney Smith was a Prisoner of War interned in Switzerland when he applied to marry Mlle. Eveline Agnes Guenin, a Swiss national from Lausanne, Switzerland. There is an exchange of letters between the British Legation in Switzerland and the Chief Constable of Sussex Constabulary which confirm the eligibility of Private Smith to be able to marry. His father lived in Norman Road, Hastings.
