Albert Edward Spreadbury was born in 1891 in Southampton, Hampshire. He was a labourer when he joined the Royal Navy, 6th January 1911.
His papers confirm that he served on the Q SHips, Q18 Lady Olive and H.M.S. Convolvulus. The Lady Olive was sunk just after he left the crew.
CONVOLVULUS, convoy sloop, Flower-class, Anchusa-type, ordered 1.17, Aubretia and Anchusa-types built to look like merchant ships, with concealed armament, T.23 (1.18). Launched 19.5.17 Barclay Curle. 1290 tons, 262(oa), 250(pp)x35x11ft. TE2500ihp, 16.5kts. Armament. 2-4in, 2-12pdr. Served with Grand Fleet or in Mediterranean, decoy or Q-ship, other names ABNEY, MANTON. Sold 1.12.21 Stanlee.
Spreadbury was invalided out of the Royal Navy following an amputation of a finger in 1919 with Silver War Badge.
