Charles Essex was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1866 and he was a 22 year old seaman when he attested into the KRRC at Winchester, Hampshire, in September 1888.
He served until 22nd February 1900 when he was discharged medically unfit.
He served in the following campaigns,as per his service papers. HAZARA 1891, MIRANZAI 1891, ISAZAI EXPEDITION 1892, CHITRAL RELIEF EXPEDITION 1895.
His next of kin are given as his Uncle and Aunt in Cape Town, William and Elizabeth Essex.
