20 Dec 1918 Essex County Chronicle “Staff Capt”. Information provided by Brighton History Centre – Captain Arthur Bartlett Wales was educated at Hove High School, and was elected as a councillor in 1913. He joined the Army and served in France, Belgium and Italy (through the Battle of the Somme, the 3rd Battle of Ypres, and Passchendale Ridge). He was awarded the Military Cross and the Italian Croce de Guerra. He ran an estate agent in Hove (173 Church Road) for 40 years, retiring in 1949. He died in February 1953 aged 68.
