Baltic Medal 1856, Operations against Russia
Authorised in 1856 for the Campaign in the Baltic Sea 1854-55 to Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Sappers and Miners.The medals to Officers and Men of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines were awarded for operations against Russia which took place at the same time as the Crimean War. These medals were issued unnamed. Approximately 100 of these medals were also awarded to members of the Royal Sappers and Miners who were engaged in the demolition of the Russian fortifications of Bomarsund and Sveaborg, these medals were issued named, officially impressed.
