Abyssinia Medal and Persia Clasp India Medal
Victorian Medal Group of 2 – India General Service Medal (Persia Clasp) and Abyssinia Medal
India Medal 1854 with Persia Clasp named to:
GUNNER. B HEADON. ARTILLERY.
Abyssinia Medal named to:
152 GUNR R. HEADON. 21st BRIGDE R. A.
The service papers for Bryan Headon confirm him being awarded the Persian Medal and the Abyssinia Medal.
His discharge papers confirm that Bryan Headon attested into the Royal Artillery aged 23 years in 1851. He was from Newtown, Kilbeggan, West Meath, Ireland. He was discharged 1870 in Purfleet and his intended place of residence was Tyrall’s Pass, Amty, West Meath, Ireland.
He served nearly 16 years in India and 6 months in Abyssinia. His number during his service became 4190 in the Royal Artillery.
The Abyssinia Medal Roll confirms that he was serving in the 7th Coastal Battery. His discharge papers confirm this.
It is interesting to note that the Abyssinia Medal is named to R not B Headon. Because of the very high cost of producing this medal, due to the embossed nature of the naming as opposed to the engraved style on all other medals, the error would not have been corrected.
